Add icons, illustrations, logos, people, and backgrounds

Use the YADL asset command center to find visual building blocks and source-backed backgrounds without leaving your workspace.

Add visual assets

Press / in the editor to open the asset command center. The command center keeps one search term while you switch among categories, so you can compare related visual options quickly.

Choose a category

  • Icons: add an outline icon as a reusable named import and a component instance.
  • Logos: add available full-color symbol or wordmark artwork.
  • Illustrations: add a rights-cleared illustration as self-contained visual content.
  • Humans: configure a standing or sitting Humaaans character, preview it, then add the composed SVG.
  • Backgrounds: search the source-backed catalog, or create, version, and reuse a private background.

Use arrow keys to move through results, Enter to add the selected result, and Escape to close the command center. Search results show category details and the add action when you hover or focus them.

Configure a human

In the Humans tab, select the pose, front, lower body, upper body, and available color choices. The preview updates before you add the finished character. Shuffle creates a compatible combination. Adding a human creates one flattened SVG in the document; edit the inserted result as visual content rather than expecting the original configurator controls to remain attached.

Backgrounds and brands

YADL documents can use catalog-backed backgrounds and brands to keep a visual consistent. A background controls the visual surface behind the document; a brand can provide shared paints and typography. Background modules can expose validated color and option settings at their source activation, so a template can customize a reusable background without copying its implementation.

Open the command center with /, select Backgrounds, then choose Apply for an available catalog item. Configurable items also offer Customize with source-backed color controls. YADL writes the normal named import and the single global background Name(...) activation into the active source file; it does not insert a canvas object. This means undo/redo, persistence, preview, and export all use the same source-backed choice. The command center closes after a background is applied, just like it does after adding an icon or person.

Signed-in authors can create a private background from that same tab. Use Edit to change its YADL source, Save new version to create an immutable revision, and Apply to use that revision in the current document. Private backgrounds can be submitted with provenance and license confirmation for administrator review, but cannot be included in a published public template until promoted into the catalog. The background import reference in the repository documents syntax, parameters, motion, and export behavior in detail.

Keep assets useful

Use assets to clarify the message, not to fill empty space. Keep icons large enough to recognize, use descriptive nearby text, and confirm contrast in the selected theme before exporting.
